YOUNG CAPACITY BUILDING WORKSHOPS ON OWNERSHIP OF THE YOUTH PEACE AND SECURITY AGENDA (JPS), COHESIVE AND INCLUSIVE LEADERSHIP, AND PEACEFUL CONFLICT MANAGEMENT
July 3, 2026, The Solidarity for The Support and Poverty Reduction Organization (SELP ASBL) officially launched its capacity-building workshops for young people in Goma and Nyiragongo. This series of training sessions focuses on the adoption of the Youth, Peace and Security (JPS) Agenda, cohesive leadership, and peaceful conflict management.
These sessions are part of the « PAMOJA KWA AMANI » initiative, led by SELP ASBL. This action benefits from the financial support of the project « Promoting Youth Political Participation in North and South Kivu through the Adoption of the Youth, Peace and Security (JPS) Agenda, » implemented under the leadership of the consortium composed of Search for Common Ground, National Partnership of Children and Youth in Peacebuilding, YALI and Youth for Peace DRC
The ultimate goal of these workshops is to empower these young people to become true agents of peace, social cohesion, and the peaceful resolution of disputes within their respective communities.
The first session was Led by a member of the Steering Committee of the JPS North Kivu Coalition.
During this training, participants deepened their understanding of UN Security Council Resolution 2250, analyzing its five fundamental pillars: Protection, Prevention, Participation, Partnership, and Disengagement/Reintegration.
The young people were also equipped with knowledge of the principles and mechanisms for conflict prevention, analysis, and peaceful transformation. Discussions emphasized the importance of dialogue, active listening, citizen participation, transparency, and combating all forms of discrimination.
Through dynamic group work, participants identified the main drivers of conflict in their communities, including poverty, youth unemployment, land disputes, hate speech, and disinformation.
Faced with these challenges, they formulated several concrete solutions, including skills development (particularly in entrepreneurship), promoting inter-community dialogue, and education. Responsible citizenship, as well as increased awareness in favor of peaceful coexistence.
By initiating these workshops, SELP ASBL reaffirms its commitment to promoting responsible youth, capable of actively contributing to conflict prevention, peacebuilding, and the sustainable development of North Kivu, South Kivu, and the entire Democratic Republic of Congo.
Through the « PAMOJA KWA AMANI » (Together for Peace) initiative, SELP ASBL continues its support to help young people embrace and disseminate the JPS agenda, thus becoming inclusive and decisive leaders for the future of the country.
